The Separation of Three Worlds
The movie Jerusalem presents the city as a hub of religious activity. I believe that what makes the city so unique is that within its bounds,
so many people have very different experiences. Jerusalem being home to three
major religions of the world is unlike any other city in the world.
For anyone
who believes in either Christianity, Judaism, or Islam, this place is at the
center of your belief systems. For Christianity, this is the place where they
believe Jesus died and was resurrected. For Judaism, the bedrock outcrop in
Jerusalem is where they think the world was created. Muslims believe that
Jerusalem is where Mohamed went to Heaven. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLW6vO-7rFk) The fact that three of the most
popular religions on Earth believe some major event happened in the same area is
astounding to me. There is no other place on Earth like this. The city of
Jerusalem is as unique as it comes. The distinct separation of the three
religions while also sharing a city is almost unheard of.

Three very different
religions live in the same city and are pretty much separate from each other’s
lives. One of the girls in the movie was saying how she doesn’t really know what
goes on with the people of the two other religions. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLW6vO-7rFk) The people there really only
know about the people of their belief system. That is crazy. They live in the
same city but they are so separate. It’s like there are three different worlds
inside of this one city. I can’t even imagine living in a city where I don't know seemingly anything about the rest of the population. The unifying thing between them is the belief that the ground they live on is where some
major event happened that now shapes what they believe.
I feel like the dynamic
of the city really reflects how our world runs. We have so many religions, but
none of them really interact with each other. The women being interviewed seemed
as though they wanted to interact with the people of different beliefs more
often, but how would she know how to maneuver that. They are in one of the most
religiously diverse areas of the world, but due to our society's tendency to not welcome new
viewpoints or people different from us, it makes it so difficult for the three groups of people to know what to do. They have no framework to go off of to have
a productive relationship with people of other faiths. Hopefully in the future, the population of Jerusalem can learn to intertwine more with each other and celebrate each other's religious beliefs.
