Look into Jerusalem

This documentary on the city of Jerusalem showed a complete look at the different faiths and cultures that call Jerusalem home. Jews, Christians, and Muslims all lay claim to Jerusalem as a holy city all for different reasons. People of these faiths all reside in Jerusalem, separated into different quarters. People of these three faiths are able to freely live and practice their beliefs in their sector and from the view of the documentary there does not seem like there is much intermixing of the different sectors. 

The documentary starts off by interviewing three different girls from the city, one Christian, the other Jewish and the third Muslim. They take us through a brief tour of the different sectors before the documentary turns to look at the history of Jerusalem. According to the documentary the city is built on ruins of previous civilizations all destroyed or altered by the many wars that have been waged in the city. Since the city has so many holy sites to all three religions, there have been many battles over who could lay claim over Jerusalem. These battles have been occurring for centuries and Archaeologists have even discovered evidence that people have been using Jerusalem as a place of worship for thousands of years. There are many holy spots in Jerusalem but the major ones are the Church of Holy Sepulchre for the Christians, the Western Wall for the Jews, and the Dome of the Rock for the Muslims. These religious places have all had tremendous impacts on their respected religions for hundreds of years and still play important roles to this day. 

The most interesting thing I learned from this documentary was how the different Jerusalem sectors are not made up of homogeneous groups but instead people from many different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. For example in the Christian quarter there are Christians from many different places like Ethiopia, Balkan Peninsula, Syrians and others. All these different ethnic practice their own traditions for their common faith but it does not stop them from living together in harmony. Even though Jerusalem is only ⅓ square miles it holds many different cultures inside it with the documentary describing it as having many different cities within itself.
